Jan Triska is an Ottawa-based painter, primarily focused on landscape works. All the subjects for his paintings come from actual travels; he works from photographs he’s taken and sketches he’s made on site. Whether travelling far or rambling around his familiar surroundings, he finds inspiration in colors, lines and textures of the land, as well as the forest environments. There is some influence of the Group of 7, Cubists and also the romanticism of 19th century landscape painters.
Born in Czech Republic, he has lived in Calgary, Edmonton and now Ottawa/Gatineau for the last six years. Jan’s work has been shown previously in 2005, 2008 and 2009 at various cafes in Ottawa, as well as on exhibit at the Carmel Gallery.
